What exactly is jute ?
Jute is an annual plant growing to 2-4 m tall. Its native habitat is mainly India and Pakistan. It is grown in the floodplains of rivers and harvested every six months. The 'golden fibres' produced from it have many uses.
In India, where jute originated, it has been cultivated and used for centuries, but its industrial use worldwide only became widespread during the Industrial Revolution.
It is widely used in agriculture, making sacks, ropes, carpets, etc. It is an excellent material for earth ball packaging, it can be tied well!
Advantages of jute fabric and bags in agriculture:
Jute is a perfect raw material for growing plants. It can be used as a bag or as a suitable size of fabric for soil balls, as it can be tied well. Its positive properties include good ventilation, which is important for the root system. Thus it prevents mould growth and infilling. It also has good thermal insulation properties.
Uses:
It is advisable to roll down the mouth of the planting jute bag to a height that is already suitable for the plant. This depends on the root system and size of the plant. The bag should be filled with good quality soil and compost. Care should be taken to make the soil lighter. In the case of a soil mixture, a mixture containing coir or peat should be chosen. The bag should be filled to about one third full with soil. The water supply of plants not planted in free soil should be more carefully monitored, as a small amount of soil dries out quickly.
