Antiseptic role of maize and sunflower
SoilGuard 1.5 GR™ is a pyrethroid-type soil disinfectant micro-granulate containing the active ingredient tefluthrin.
Synthetic pyrethroids are highly effective contact insecticides. They are practically harmless to organisms with a constant body temperature (warm-blooded) because the hyaline sheath protecting the nerve pathways prevents the active substance from binding to the nerve membrane, unlike the nervous system of insects and animals with variable body temperatures (fish, insects, amphibians) where this protective "sheath" is absent.
The acetylcholine produced in the end plate of the nerve cell that transmits the stimulus (presynaptic) is released into the gap between the nerve cells (synapse) and reaches the receptors on the membrane of the cell that receives the stimulus (postsynaptic). When bound to the receptors, it induces changes in the membrane ion channels in response to the nerve stimulus. Therefore, the Na+ permeability of the cell membrane is increased. Pyrethroid-type agents block the permeability of Na+ ion channels, creating a continuous nerve stimulus, thus abnormalising the movement of the pest and killing it.
Due to the lipophilic nature of the active ingredient tefluthrin, it is highly soluble in fats and oils, but has poor water solubility. As a result, it has minimal vertical or horizontal movement in the soil when exposed to moisture/rain. However, it is strongly bound to organic matter and clay minerals in the soil. Due to its gassing property, it penetrates (diffuses) slowly into soil particles. It can thus exert its paralytic effect on muscle tissue through both the respiratory system and the skin tissue of soil-damaging insects. As a result, the insects stop feeding and die. This is complemented by the repellent (deterrent) effect of tefluthrin against soil pests.
Thanks to all these properties, the active ingredient tefluthrin can provide long-lasting and reliable biological efficacy against soil pests even under adverse environmental conditions.
Tefluthrin is one of the most effective active substances against corn rootworm larvae. This is evidenced by the fact that it is the most widely used soil insecticide in the United States today. In addition to the corn earworm (Diabrotica virgifera var. virgifera), it can also be used to control other soil pests such as corn borers and wireworms.
Building on these properties/benefits of the active ingredient tefluthrin, SoilGuard 1.5 GR™ soil disinfectant micro-granules have been developed to help practitioners reduce soil pest damage to below the economic threshold.
Benefits of using SoilGuard 1.5 GR™:
provides an effective solution for corn earworm control
effective against the main soil pests
Provides one of the most cost-effective solutions to control soil-borne pests
SoilGuard 1.5 GR™ can be used:
The product can only be used once per growing season!
The product is only used in one application period.
During treatment, ensure complete coverage of the spread granules with the soil and ensure that any granules accidentally spilled on the soil surface are collected and removed!
Tefluthrin is a sodium ion channel modifier, contact and gaseous pyrethroid active substance, IRAC classification '3A' (Pyrethroids, pyrethrins).
Tefluthrin is a contact (non-absorbed) agent.
Airborne application is not permitted.
