How do the varieties in the mix complement each other in the field?

The Barenbrug Water Saver grass seed mix is made up of reed canarygrass, English periwinkle and meadow periwinkle. The Barenbrug meadow perennial varieties are known for their good resistance to various environmental influences and their fast recovery after dry periods. While many meadow perennial grasses are extremely stressed by dry and hot summers, the Barimpala/Barduke varieties used here recover and recover quickly.
Meadow perennial grass is the dominant grass species in the Water Saver grass seed mix. The range of meadow periwinkle varieties is extremely wide, but Water Saver includes only those that have been shown to be the best in terms of drought tolerance, winter hardiness and trampling resistance, based on Barenbrug's research. Barimpala and Barduke are meadow perch varieties that perform well in dry conditions and have good winter hardiness.

With its horizontally running taracking root system, it forms an extensive network and provides high density to the turf.

What kind of lawn will Barenbrug Watersaver grass seed mix produce?

A lawn created from the Water Saver blend uses the water resources of deeper soil layers, whereas most grass species have less deep root systems and therefore take up water from the upper soil layers (top 10 - 15 cm of soil). Such grasses can have difficulty withstanding drier periods or even die out, sometimes even before periods of extreme heat and drought.
The reed-like species of chamise in the Water Saver mix have roots that store water and nutrients as a reserve for dry periods. The other dominant species in the mix, meadow periwinkle, forms an extensive network with its horizontal running taracking root system and provides a high density of turf.
