The trunk of this date palm species has a diamond-shaped pattern of dead leaf bases, and the mostly relatively loose leaf stalks consist of about 20 to 30 leaves that can reach 5 m in length. The tree itself usually grows to a height of 21-23 metres.
Without the common date palm, life in many desert areas would still be unthinkable.
