Sown as spring mixed fodder, it produces a large mass of green fodder from early to late June, depending on the time of sowing and the supporting crop. It is a good pre-seed because of its nitrogen fixing capacity. It is not very demanding on soil, but is most successful on compacted and medium loam soils. It is a drought-tolerant seed. It is usually sown with oat stover, but can also be grown successfully with spring barley.
Seed rate: for forage production, depending on the soil type, 50-70 kg/ha of stover and 90-100 kg/ha of spring vetch. Sowing in March.
