WHAT IS AEGIS SYM MYCORRHIZA?
AEGIS SYM is a mycorrhizal fungal inoculant that lives in symbiosis with the roots of the plant.
The mycelium tissue (fungal filament, hypha) of the fungus entangles the roots of the host plant, the two types of organisms mutually assist each other in accessing water and dissolved nutrients.
The mycorrhizal fungus, with its large surface area of mycelium and greater absorption capacity than the roots of the plant, has access to more water and minerals. For example, from soils in which phosphate ions are tightly bound to iron oxides, plant roots are unable to extract phosphorus, but mycorrhizal mycelia have access to these sources, as well as to zinc, molybdenum and copper compounds that are immobile to the plant.
AEGIS SYM is a combination of several useful fungal species, the fastest growing and most mycelium-rich species being Glomus intraradices.
GLOMUS INTRARADICES
Laboratory research clearly shows that Glomus intraradices is the most active of the several mycorrhizal species tested. Glomus intraradices is, together with other HABS mycorrhizal fungal species, native to Central and South-Eastern Europe and the Mediterranean basin, and therefore well adapted to the crops of the Hungarian growing regions.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF REGULAR USE OF AEGIS?
1. significant increase in root surface area for soluble nutrient uptake
2. easier absorption of nitrogen, phosphorus and microelements (iron, boron, zinc, etc.)
3. reduction of stress effects associated with planting
4. in case of water shortage, the increased root surface can absorb more moisture (the hyphal tissue of the mycorrhizal fungus also contains water-soluble nutrients that are easily utilized by the plant)
5. Resistance to high salt concentrations.
6. high resistance to plant pathogenic organisms (root-knot nematodes, Phytophtora spp., Phytium spp., Verticillium spp., Phyrochaeta spp.).
7. Easier absorption of certain antagonistic nutrients (e.g. calcium/potassium)
8. has a soil structure improving role, reduces symptoms of soil stagnation, provides oxygen to the roots of the plant
9. in the presence of mycorrhizae, the fertiliser applied is better utilised.
HOW DOES AEGIS WORK?
AEGIS mycorrhizal hyphal colonies live in symbiosis with the root system of the crop: the fungal filaments densely interwoven with the root environment of the plant, while providing water and dissolved nutrients to the plant root system.
Mycorrhizas are particularly useful for plants in nutrient-poor soils. Mycorrhizal plants are often more resistant to diseases, such as those caused by soil-dwelling microbes, and are also more drought tolerant, probably due to the greater water absorption capacity of hyphae.
WHEN TO USE AEGIS?
AEGIS mycorrhizal fungicide should always be applied at the same time as sowing or planting. It is easiest to mix the inoculant with seed and sow in the mixed state or to mix the inoculant with seedling growing medium.
When used at planting, care should be taken to ensure that the inoculant is in the most direct physical contact possible with the living (white) roots of the seedling.
HOW TO APPLY AEGIS?
The key is to ensure that the inoculant (AEGIS) is in direct contact with the living roots of the plant when planting. The application of the inoculant is simplified by the fact that the mycorrhizal fungus is available in 4 different packaging formats depending on whether you want to use it for sowing or planting.
CAN THE EFFECTIVENESS OF AEGIS SYM MYCORRHIZAL INOCULANTS BE INCREASED?
Yes, the efficacy of the formulas suggested above can be significantly increased by using organic fertilizer granules. All AEGIS SYM inoculants are compatible with ITALPOLLINA organic plant nutrients. A better result is guaranteed if the manure pellet also contains phosphorus of organic origin, e.g. GUANITO, PHENIX, DIX, DUETTO, etc.)
ARE THERE ANY DISADVANTAGES OF USING AEGIS SYM?
AEGIS SYM inoculants do not have any adverse effects in general. The mycorrhizal inoculant is completely free of any adverse effects, contains no plant pathogenic organisms and no Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs).
CAN AEGIS SYM BE USED IN COMBINATION WITH OTHER SUBSTANCES?
Never use Benomyl, Iprodione or copper-based fungicides when using AEGIS! Copper-based fungicides will inactivate or kill mycorrhizal colonies. Soluble phosphorus concentrations in soil should not exceed 50 ppm. The use of the above mentioned products should be avoided for about 2 to 3 weeks during planting, as they are totally incompatible with the development of bacterial and fungal flora in the soil.
FURTHER ADVICE ON THE USE OF AEGIS SYM
Glomus intraradices is a living substance, some important rules must be observed when using it:
The inoculant should be stored in a fresh-air, well-ventilated room, free from sunlight, extremes of high and low temperatures and protected from sunlight.
