Originating from the north and west of Madagascar, it is considered by some to be the most beautiful deciduous shade tree in the world. Its shiny green, leathery leaves turn dark green with age and fall off before flowering. And at dusk they close up. Huge orange-red, scarlet-red flowers open in masses on the branch tips, which can grow to 10-15 cm in size. When in flower, they are a startling sight!
It is very easy to grow and is widely planted in tropical regions around the world. The seeds should be immersed in hot water and left to soak in room temperature water for 1 day before planting.
Firewood grows very fast, about 1.5 m per year in natural conditions. It tolerates a wide range of growing media well. When planting, look for a sheltered spot. It thrives best in full sun.
The plant is drought tolerant but will appreciate a regular watering. During the dormant season it needs little watering.
Minimum temperature 7°C, not frost tolerant.

Cultivation:
They require humus-rich, well-drained soil and ample watering for rapid growth during their first few years.
