Benefits:
- 77% calcium chloride active ingredient, which melts ice faster than salt and at very low temperatures
- It is not harmful to plants like salt because it does not contain sodium
- dissolves completely, no residual particles
- small amounts are sufficient to dissolve ice effectively
Disadvantages:
- more expensive than salt (although significantly less is needed)
- more expensive than de-icing agents mixed with zeolite
- chloride content causes corrosion (although less than salt)
Where is it recommended?
For places where ice needs to be melted quickly and suddenly - such as truck stops - or where the aim is to avoid using zeolite left over after melting.
Application:
Calcium Chloride Flake is sprayed onto the icy surface, which will begin melting immediately. The recommended application rate is 10 to 30 g/m2 (half a handful/m2). Depending on the amount sprayed, it can melt ice down to -15-20 C. The ice is melted by the application of flakes to the surface of the ice.
