What kind of plant is Makói bronze onion?

The Makó bronze onion is an annual, long-lived, high-yielding variety.It can be grown from seed and from bulbs. It is recommended for the production of green onions and early cooking onions. For storage, late-picked onions, the use of seed is better.The onion is spherical, with a bronze-brown outer skin colour, and flesh is firm, white, with a slightly pungent flavour.

Temperature requirements:

Onions are cold-tolerant plants. During the growing season, the optimum temperature is 19 °C. The red chokeberry is a hardy tomato.

Light requirement:

The growth of onions is influenced by the intensity of illumination and the length of daylight. Onions make good use of bright light. Strong light increases the mass of the foliage in combination with low temperatures and the mass of the bulb in combination with high temperatures. Houseplants will not produce much in shade.

Water requirements:

What should you look out for when watering?

Constantly high soil water levels will reduce the dry matter content of the bulb, increase the number of diseased bulbs (fungal and bacterial) and reduce shelf life.

Sow from March onwards, from soil temperatures above 8 °C.

Spacing:

30 cm x 3 cm row and sow the seeds at a spacing between the rows.

Onions can be harvested from June to August.
