Growing methods:
Suitable for growing under plastic film and as a second crop, tolerates drought well.
Requirements of Alba asparagus:
Heat requirements:
Asparagus is a light and heat-demanding vegetable and is also sensitive to frost.
Water requirements:
It has a high water requirement and is very water-wise.
Soil requirements:
Not particularly sensitive to soil type, but it is important that the soil is rich in nutrients. Sowing seeds in deep cultivated, dug or ploughed soil, or planting pre-grown seedlings, is almost guaranteed to be successful!
Growing Alba asparagus:
Sowing:
A thermophilic plant, sow in the open ground only after the danger of frost has passed in May, at a depth of 3-5 cm. Cultivation by seedling increases earliness and results in a balanced stand.
Seed requirements:
8-10g/10 m2 . At reseeding, sow 2-3 seeds per cluster, which are then sown to 1-2 plants after emergence.
Spacing:
Spacing between rows: 100 cm, spacing between stems: 80 cm.
Harvesting:
July-August. The first fruits should be harvested before they are fully developed to encourage the plant to produce new flowers and fruits, after which only the mature stems are harvested.
